One unfortunate feature of the Motorola Atrix is that if you try to unlock it with an invalid network unlock code more than ten times, it will permanently lock up. After this point, no matter which SIM card you insert (even the one from your own carrier), you will be given a dialogue to enter your network unlock code. However, even if you enter the correct unlock code at this point, it will not work.
On top of this, calling AT&T customer support and/or going into their store won't get this problem solved (trust me, I tried it ;-)...

Your Atrix is now is useless... or is it?
There is actually a solution that I was finally able to find. It will involve some hacking, so follow this guide at your own risk. For reference, I used these steps to fix my AT&T Atrix using a Windows XP system (side note: the XP was actually installed on a VirtualBox instance).
This guide also works for Atrix 2, but nobody has reported it working for the Atrix HD.

This guide also works for Atrix 2, but nobody has reported it working for the Atrix HD.
1. Download and install RSDLite 5.0 (it can be found through a web search or here).
2. Download Retail Brazil Radio.sbf from here (preferred) or here. This file will work regardless of where you bought your phone.
3. Turn off your Atrix and remove the SIM card and MicroSD card.
4. While pressing the volume up key, reboot your atrix. If you are using the Atrix HD, you may need to hold both the volume up and volume down keys.
5. The phone will display "Starting RSD protocol support" (and "Unlocked" if you have unlocked your bootloader, which is not necessary for this guide).
6. Connect the USB cable from your Atrix into your computer.
6. Connect the USB cable from your Atrix into your computer.
7. Open up RSDLite on your computer. Your phone should be recognized as "NS Flash Olympus" or "SE Flash Olympus". If not, try searching online for a newer version of RSDLite and try again.
8. Press "..." next to the "Filename:" box and select your "Retail Brazil Radio.sbf."
8. Press "..." next to the "Filename:" box and select your "Retail Brazil Radio.sbf."
9. Press the "Start" button and cross your fingers. This will take a few minutes and your phone will reboot in the process. If this process fails, please read through the comments below as some users have found workarounds.
10. Once this is done, you may be asked to log in to Motorola Blur.
11. Bypass this log in by:
11. Bypass this log in by:
- Holding down the menu button (bottom left button on your phone), which will bring up the virtual keyboard
- Press the keys ?123, ALT, ABC, e, ?123, ALT, ABC, e
- Then, type "bluroff" (with no quotes)
12. Put your phone into airplane mode by holding down the power key and selecting airplane mode.
13. Now, shut off your Atrix and insert your original carrier-provided SIM card (my AT&T SIM card in my situation).
14. Disable airplane mode.
14. Disable airplane mode.
15. Congratulations! Your Atrix should work again!
16. If you know you have the correct network unlock code (either by calling your carrier directly or by having purchased it online), let's quickly unlock your phone permanently.
17. Open up the dialing pad and type "#073887*", which should open up a "SIM network unlock PIN" prompt. If this does not work, turn off your Atrix, insert a non-accepted SIM card (i.e. from another carrier), and reboot.
18. Enter your network unlock code.
19. Congratulations again! Your Atrix should now be permanently network-unlocked!
20. Now that your Atrix is unlocked, don't you wish you could select your network operator manually (disabled by default on Atrix)? If so, see the other guide I wrote exactly on this topic.
21. [Extra step] If you want to restore the original AT&T radio, see this comment. Note that this is not necessary and requires a lot of extra work.
If you run into any issues, try searching for a solution (either in the numerous comments below or online) before posting a comment.

Special thanks to antoniolcrd for his forum post that proposed the Brazil Radio solution, Whipon for uploading the Retail Brazil Radio SBF, and to the entire Atrix development community as a whole!

thanks a ton for the guide but for some reason when I type in the unlock code after dialing #073887* I get a message that reads "phone is subsidy locked. please contact service provider. only emergency calls are allowed." I got my unlock code from at&t by the way. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me tackle this issue.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I researched online about that message (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534062), it does seem like your phone is permanently network locked. Following this guide from step 1 should solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteHow far did you get through the guide? Did you get this message at step 17?
step 18
DeleteHmm, did you buy your phone less than 6 months ago?
DeleteTry taking out your SIM card and restarting the phone. Try toggling airplane mode on/off. Try a non-AT&T SIM.
If none of this works, try unlocking your bootloader, like I did before writing this guide. Although I said it was not necessary to unlock it in the guide, it may actually be necessary!
Yes I did. I will try that. My bootloader actually is unlocked. Thanks for this help.
DeleteI tried that and it lets me type in the code but goes to the message again. When i leave it on that screen for about 5 minutes it prompts me to type in the code again.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I am not sure what to suggest to you now. You can try posting on a forum and see what other users think. I would link them to this guide because it seems like not many people have been able to resolve this problem. If you decide to do so, please provide a link to the forum.
ReplyDeleteCould you post any other background information about your phone/service?
I'll post back if I think of anything else to try. Just to let you know, my phone was also rooted, so that may also be necessary.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing the instruction to overcome the permanently locked atrix. (I have atrix 1)
I am able to use orginal sim (AT&T) but cant able to use other network sim. Able to get reach till step 18 but it give the message "phone network subsidy is locked..." same as others.
Could any one has suggestions on this.
Thanks
Do you mean your phone works with AT&T SIM cards? Did you at least manage to get it to not be permanently locked anymore?
DeleteRegarding this message, hmm... that's strange.
What firmware version is your Atrix? It might be possible that the Atrix system firmware needs to be the old version (4.5.91). This is what I was using when I did this guide.
thanks for replying
DeleteMy atrix firmware version is 4.5.91
any suggestions please..
thanks
Hmm... I don't know what to suggest from here.
DeleteThere must be something different in your setup than mine. It could be possible your unlock code is not correct.
Either way, I am glad that your Atrix at least works on AT&T again!
I am pretty sure that my code is correct. (i asked couple of times from at&t).
DeleteWhen I flash with bell sbf then only it works for at&t sim. When I use at&t sbf then it doesnt work for any sim.
I contacted to at&t again .. now they refuse to give me code and mentioned that your atrix is locked to at&t till august 2012.. then after you can unlock the device with given code... Its strange, as last time they provided code...now they are refusing....
I am thinking to change rom ...whats your call on this?
thanks
Did you buy your phone new less than 6 months ago? I recall that AT&T's policy was not to hand out unlock codes until 6 months have passed. It may be possible that your phone is hard-locked until 6 months have passed, probably in August (I think the AT&T network has to validate your unlock request).
DeleteRegarding flashing the ROM, I am not sure what to say, just because I don't have much experience with Android hacking. However, I think the experts at xda-developers can probably give you a better opinion on this.
Either way, I am glad that this guide at least partially worked for you! If you did buy the phone less than 6 months ago, let me know and I'll update the guide to note this restriction.
Thanks for making this guide! What a headache this has all been. So I followed your instructions, but reached Step 12 and my phone did not give me the option to switch into airplane mode. I proceeded with all of the rest of the steps, but was unable to unlock successfully. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteHmm... that's strange. What exactly happens when you try to hold the power button down? Can you enable airplane mode in settings->wireless&networks?
DeleteWhat's your firmware version?
I went through the steps and my phone did not boot up at all! It is stuck at the "rethink possible" screen. What can I do from here. RSD lite says please manually restart the handset. there is no way to restart it other than to pull the battery. And even then it is stuck at the same screen. help please.
ReplyDeleteDid this happen after step 9?
DeleteI think your phone may be bricked. This is out of my expertise, but I think the folks down at xda-developers can help you out.
thanks is work for me
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear it!
DeleteTHANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUnlock worked successfully! One question though, does the Brazil radio flashed perform differently than the stock AT&T US radio for data or voice?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Glad it worked!
DeleteIn my experience, the Brazil radio did not cause any problems. It worked exactly as the AT&T radio had worked.
However, another user mentioned that he was able to update from 4.5.91 to the latest official Atrix version without any problems.
Could you try the update process and post back how it works out with your phone?
I can't do this myself because I have hacked my phone too much >.<
I actually had the latest official (2.3.6) already installed when I ran into this SIM issue, so I don't think it'll let me run the update again... good to hear that the radio works the same, I'll just wait it out for the ICS upgrade!
DeleteOkay, thanks for the response.
DeleteHi there, I have the same problem the permanently locked phone after too maby attempts, I tried to follow your tutorial but the rsdlite sends and error that says that the phone could'nt renumerate, Can I use another sbf file??? or the trick works just with this one, I'm from Mexico and the network company is Telcel.
ReplyDeleteThis unlocking hack only works with this special Brazil radio.
DeleteI am not sure why RSDLite is not working for you, but here is a thread I found with possible solutions: http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-help/6136-why-cant-i-flash-sbf-rsd.html
Let me know if it works out for you.
Oh, so you bought your Atrix in Brazil?
ReplyDeleteIn that case it makes sense that this hack won't work because it relies entirely on the Brazil radio.
You could try to:
1. Flash a bell radio
2. Try this guide again from step 1
This might solve your problem.
However, I have never flashed a bell radio before, so be very careful is it is possible this could mess up your phone (but your phone is already messed up, so I guess it's worth the shot).
Hi ,
ReplyDeletei followed the ur guide when i connect my phone its showing as SE flash olympus and after step 8 my start button is not highlighted
I'm not sure. From the little I read, it seems like this might happen with non-US phones.
DeleteCheck out google to see if you can find a thread that matches your situation.
This is the US phone i bought it from AT&T when i connect my phone its showing as SE Flash Olympus instead of NE flash .
ReplyDeleteTry RSDLite 5.6.
DeleteHi Rabbu,
DeleteMy Atrix too have same SE Flash Olympus. I am running RSDlite 5.0 on Win7 64Bit OS. You found any solution for your problem?
Thanks
Hmm... I don't know what to suggest from here. The whole guide relied on that particular Brazil radio, so it just might not work for Brazil Atrix.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to see if you can exchange your Atrix by contacting Motorola or the shop you bought it from. This is clearly a Motorola bug, so they should honor your request.
BRAVO! worked for me
ReplyDelete-Tyrik Jiang
Thank you for the guide!!! You saved my day!!
ReplyDelete*073887# doesnt trigger anything? please help!
ReplyDeleteIt should be #073887* (the # comes before the *). Good luck!
DeleteI dont think that worked either ;\ I want to reflash back to my old ATT radio which is more stable and faster and when i do flash it back to it the phone locks up again so i flash back to your radio. Any help is appreciated and thank you very much for the guide. I wouldve had a 500$ brick
DeleteFlashing back to the old AT&T radio is a bit of a hassle.
Delete1. You need to install CWM Recovery on your phone
2. You need to download a .zip radio.
3. You need to use CWM Recovery to install the .zip file
There is a lot more to this process, but these steps will get you started.
I too have the same problem. Can anyone please confirm that unlocking bootloader is very much required for this solution to work. Following is my Software & other details.

Unlocking the bootloader is not required.
DeleteThis guide should work for your phone.
Thanks Amil,
ReplyDeleteI started following the steps, when i connect & open the RSDLite, the device is recognized as "SE Flash Olympus" and not as "NS Flash Olympus". So stopped it. Anyone had similar device and did this solution worked please let me know.
Thanks
Hi Umyaa,
Deleterabbu had the same issue (see the above comments). I don't know the solution to this, but I posted some links in my reply which may help. Please post back when you figure it out.
Hi Amil,
ReplyDeleteI went forward, used RSDLite 5.7, latest one. And flashed the Brazil sbf file. It processed successfully. Once i entered purchased unlock code it showing "phone network subsidy is locked". No idea how to proceed further. Read some forums saying it indicates that permanently locked phone.
Is the SIM card you inserted into the phone active? Are you able to make phone calls?
DeleteI think you need to be connected to the network to unlock.
yes, its an overseas sim. when i use it on a non locked phone it works. I'll try again using t-mobile.
DeleteAny suggestion on the carrier unlocker provider like cellunlock.net or globalunlock.com. I am thinking to try some other unlocker.
ReplyDeleteNot sure. I called AT&T directly to get my unlock code for free.
DeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteAs i reported earlier, when i connect RSD lite My Atrix was detected as "SE Flash Olympus". Once bootloader is unlocked then its showing "NS Flash Olympus." So it seems to be how RSD Lite recognizes locked & unlocked bootloaders.
Got the carrier unlock code from AT&T.
After unlocking the bootloader and flashing Brazil radio also not unlocking the carrier. I am left with no options i guess :(.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI tried all steps above. flashing retail brazilradio but not able to unlock..
I tried to move on stock 4.5.91 but still no luck.
My atrix is hardlocked, and I do have correct code from at&t(checked thrice)
Now I am in India and how to solve this.
Is any solution to hardware lock or something..
Thanks..it was nice info here...
So, I take it your phone is now working for regular phone calls, right?
DeleteRegarding network unlocking at this point, I think it is probably best to post specifics in a forum, where I am sure you can find more help.
not exactly. I can use only at&t now. But Dont wanted to use b'cause of roaming. Now I am in india, so wanted to you idea or airtel..
ReplyDeleteThanks
Hi,
DeleteDid you contact India Motorola service center. They may have some option to reflash & reset the locked phone.
This is their number. 1800-3000-4343 (Toll free from all Networks)
Thanks
Hi All,
DeleteFinally got it unlocked from a local repair center in Bangalore. I dont for what reason the guy took almost 12 days to return the phone.
Anyone who is having unlock problem in India they can check with this guy.

it worked for MEEE . thank you so much . ATT gave me a unnlock code and it would not work and locked my phone ... thanx to you my phone is alive and well!!
ReplyDeletethx again and p.s please keep your links updated.
other sites are all deleted.
ATT replaced card still no sucess motorola said the best they could do is factory reset. NO SUCCESS
ReplyDeleteAmils Websight SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS!!!!
Finally!! After one year, my cellphone is finally unlocked, now I can use it to make calls and texting. Thanks a lot!!
ReplyDeletehey tried you guide but no luck to mee...it still unlocked...any other way around it..
ReplyDeletethanks
After I reached step 9, the RSD lite program came up with and error "failed flashing process" not sure what to do with it now, except make it a paper weight, and thoughts on this would be great, thanks
ReplyDeleteTry this: http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/74153-if-you-get-failed-flashing-process-0x7100-in-rsd-lite.html
DeleteThank you for this guide! Is there a way to bypass step 13? I don't have the original SIM card, unfortunately I don't even have an idea to which network is the phone locked to. It was brought to us by our clients for testing only purposes and it was one of many devices and I doubt that there is anyone who knows anything about the network or the card :(
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how to determine the original network (try searching online), but try to use SIM cards from any of the major networks. Step 13 is only to verify the phone works again.
DeleteIf you need to restore the phone to the original state for your customer, I would recommend trying to flash back the original stock AT&T radio WITHOUT hacking the phone. I do not know how to do this, but you can post at xda-developers.
Also, if you don't mind hacking the phone, check out this post.
Motorola's official update may actually do the trick. Do verify step 13 first though.
AMIL,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Juan Miguel, and I moved to Spain last week from the Caribbean with my unlocked Atrix (original from ATT). Sadly, when signing a contract with a spanish carrier (VODAFONE) I failed a lot of times while validating with Motoblur.
I've had a horrible week trying to fix this, and believe me, I had a really bad time! I depend completely on my phone!
Thanks to your guide, now my phone is working with Vodafone and I can live in peace.
All I wanted to say is THANK YOU!, this guide saved me from a really bad situation and from losing a lot of money buying a new spanish smartphone. THERE ARE NO MORE GUIDES THAT I KNOW OF ON THE WEB TO FIX THIS ISSUE.
So, thanks again.
Regards from Madrid
I'm glad it worked out for you!
Delete11. Bypass this log in by "bringing up the virtual keyboard by holding the "Menu" key at the language selection screen of the Motorblur account setup, pressing the "?123" key followed by ALT then "e" two times in a row, and finally typing "bluroff" (without the quotations)"
ReplyDeleteWhen you press the ?123 and ALT you have a menu that contains special characters ie currency characters like for British pound how do you get to the "e" do you mean the character that looks like an "e" apologies in advance for a stupid question
Thanks for your comment.
DeleteTo answer your question, you need to press "ABC" again to get the "e" character.
I have updated that step in the guide to be more clear.
Tried this but it didn't work for me. I've tried other radios as well, but via Android Recovery instead of RSD to no avail. One change I have to make though is that I log in into MotoBLUR because the steps provided don't work in skipping the login. Not sure if this is enough to throw off the whole process.
ReplyDeleteI'm working off a rooted phone with unlocked bootloader.
My bootloader was also unlocked, but my phone was not rooted at the time I wrote this guide.
DeleteTry to bypass MOTOBLUR with these directions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027994
My phone can receive calls and receive texts but it wont make calls....
ReplyDeleteThat's strange. Try checking the settings on your phone and possibly try using another AT&T SIM card in your phone.
DeleteIt might not be related to this guide, because I see a lot of hits on google.
Hey
ReplyDeleteThanks Thanks a ton
it worked for me like a charm.
excellent work !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@umaya
ReplyDeleteI have atrix locked to at&t network. I tried all the methods listed here but no success.
I am in india so could you(@umaya) tell me more how u unlocked from other guy. I will check with him about unlocking my atrix only concern is I am in pune, so not sure how it will work.
thanks to AMIL & UMAYA for sharing info.
-satish
Satish,
DeleteIf I understand correctly, your phone works, but only with AT&T.
I believe that network unlocking requires being connected to the AT&T network because their network needs to provide the code to unlock your phone.
#073887* doesnt trigger anything for me, may it be because i am using a custom rom?
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of a custom rom causing this, but probably yes. It could be that your rom does not give you access to the native dialing pad.
DeleteTry to turn off your Atrix and insert a non-accepted SIM card (i.e. from another carrier). This should give you the network unlock screen.
If this doesn't work, try posting in a forum that has users familiar with your custom rom or uninstall your custom rom.
Note that I am using Dorian's RedPill 2.3.4 and #073887* works.
work, perfect, thanks a lot !!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Ukraine and didn't put in phone AT^T simcard, I put locked Ukrainian operator write unlock code from ebay and it works.
ReplyDeleteBut before wrote "unsucsessful request".
Glad it worked for you!
DeleteHi Amil,
ReplyDeleteLot of success stories w.r.t Atrix. I have Atrix HD MB886 and it is hardlocked after max attempts to unlock were exhausted. Too bad i have relied on a local store.
Contacted motorola friends "max number of retry's...this is set at the chip level. reflashing will not help".
Do you know if the steps you have work for Atrix HD MB886?
Is there a different baseband (.sbf) recommended for Atrix HD?
This guide works with the Atrix 2, but I have not heard of anyone using this guide with the Atrix HD. But, my gut feeling is that it will work with the HD as well.
DeleteAT&T support was not able to help me either despite the amount of time I spent with them, so I would not take Motorola's word too seriously.
In your case, you can either contact Motorola to see if you can have your phone replaced under warranty or take the gamble of voiding your warranty by following this guide.
I am not sure about if you would need another .sbf for the HD, but you could try searching for an Atrix HD Brazil .sbf if this one doesn't work.
If you do decide to try this guide with the HD, please post back your results!
How do I get to the RSDLite Protocol Screed on the Atrix HD? Holdinb Volume Up and Power does not work.
DeleteYou need to hold the volume up, volume down, and power key at the same time while booting up the phone. Nobody has reported this guide working for the Atrix HD, so you might be out of luck.
DeleteIf you can get it working, please post back what you needed to do!
i have a problem of mm2 and my unlock code doesn't work and i know is the right one, what can i do?
ReplyDeleteDo you mean that you are getting "SIM not provisioned MM #2"? If so, the unlock code should work if it is correct.
DeleteIf you are sure it is correct, try either using no SIM card or another SIM card. Otherwise, the only thing I can suggest is contacting whoever gave you that unlock code.
Hello Amil! My Atrix got stuck after step 9. And it said in RSD lite that the re-enumeration failed. And now the screen is blocked and it says sec_exception: febe, 35, 35. Had to remove the battery to turn it off.
ReplyDeleteHi Aimee. I'm not sure what this error means. However, the good news is I found a few results while searching online for it. Hopefully you can find a resolution to your issue through a web search.
DeleteHi,Amil
ReplyDeletethank you post this guide, but when I finished the step 18,I get a message that reads "phone is
subsidy locked. please contact service provider. only emergency calls are allowed." I'm sure
about the unlocked code is correct, because I made three phone call to got it from ATT.And the
phone don't ask unlock code with no signal when I insert a ATT card.
I need you advice,please help!Thank you verymuch.

Tony, a few other readers had this same problem and I replied to their comments above with possible solutions. Please read these and see if they work for you.
DeleteThank your reply,Amil,I had read all comment on this website but no help, then I google this problem,It say
Delete"If one of the followings messages appear
"Contact Service Provider"
"Tampert Alter"
"Wait before enter special Code"
"Contact Service"
Power on the phone and leave it for 40 minitues to 5 hours until you see the message "Enter

"
So I'm wating, hoping it will be a great gift.
Anyway,thank you help.
I don't know of anything else to suggest (aside from asking AT&T for a replacement phone), but please do post back if you get it working.
DeleteBest of luck to you!
Hi,Amil.I finally find someone unlonck my MB860,which cost me 100RMB.And this guy just use a software named Sigmakey, which can unlock a lot of phone, not just Atrix 4G.And here
Deleteis the Official Website http://sigmakey.com/ ,which you can learn them best from here.
As you know my English is not good to explain that,I relly hope this could help someone.
Glad you finally got your phone working and thanks for posting back! 良
Deletethank you soo much, it works
ReplyDeletehey i am trying to use the brazil radio, but my rsd lite isnt letting me press start, do you know what i should do
ReplyDeleteNot sure. Check your USB connection. If not, try using a newer version of RSDLite. Searching for this online may give you a solution.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI had purchased my phone Moto Razr XT910 2.3.6 from Telcel Mexico, which is a locked version. I am now using it in India, but It wont allow me to do.
Also the phone is not asking me to insert the unlok code, intially it did asked but not now.
I am getting this error message" This phone is subsidily locked. Please contact your service provider, only emergency calls allowed". I also tried by pressing #073887*, but no hope same message.
I did factory reset as weel. But same issue. Please help.my email jatinsachd@gmail.com
I'm not sure what to suggest, as you aren't working with an Atrix. Your best bet would be to search for this message online and post in a forum if you can't resolve it on your own. Contacting Telcel may be another option.
DeleteVictory!! I also had an issue with clicking start in RSD lite but read the articles Amil posted about moving the brazil radio file to my C: drive. I moved it to the same folder as where the RSD lite was saved - in C:
ReplyDeleteFor those having problems flashing with RSDLite, I've made a guide for an alternate solution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36262961&postcount=57). It's more complicated, requiring you unlock and install CWM, but it worked for me (T-mobile UK locked Atrix 4G)!
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks for the link to your guide.
DeleteHello Amil,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the post, really nice instruction set! I got an Atrix 4G phone from craigslist which works on ATT. I got a network unlock code from ATT however upon inserting a T-Mobile SIM and entering the code, I get a message "Network Unlock Request Unsuccessful". So I presume that even though the phone works on ATT its origins were with a different carrier. So my questions are: (a) can this phone be unlocked at all? (b) I am unable to get the SIM network unlock prompt with #073887*? (c) What should I type to check if the phone is unlocked already (which it is likely not because a non-ATT SIM still comes up with "SIM network unlock PIN"). Your thoughts most appreciated.
Hi Curious,
DeleteRegarding #073887* not working, this could happen if you are using a custom rom. Somebody else above who was using a custom rom reported the same issue. Also, it could be the case that the T-Mobile SIM you are using is not valid; try using one from a friend with active T-Mobile service.
It's good that you can use the phone with AT&T, but if you really need T-Mobile, you could try to run through this guide entirely and see if that fixes it.
Anyhow, I still am not sure what tell you. I would recommend searching for similar situations on the internet or posting on the active xda-developers forum where other Atrix users may have ideas.
AMAZING thanks heaps m8 works a treat!!!
ReplyDeletewill this work with atrix 4g mb860 build-4.5.141 ?
ReplyDeleteHi Amil,
ReplyDeleteDoes your manual helps the issue of : "phone is subsidy locked"??
This guide may help resolve this issue, but other users have had mixed results.
DeletePlease check out the other comments on this page.
Hi Amil
ReplyDeleteI have brought Atrix HD from ebay after entering wrong code it displays 'the phone is subsidy locked contact your service provider'
How do I unlock it or a least get the screen were I can put the unlock code
I had purchase the phone from USA and I am currently trying to use the phone in India.
Please help
Hi,
DeleteI'm not sure what to suggest. A lot of people have had the same issue and posted in the comments. Perhaps you can find a clue there?
If you do get it working, please do post back so future users can benefit.
Amil, I was so happy to find your tutorial! We have followed your instructions, but when we click "START" in RSD Lite, nothing happens. Any suggestions??
ReplyDeleteNever mind! The problem was that the computer didn't have the correct driver for the phone, so it was being recognized by the program. SO - I downloaded Motorola device manager and installed the driver, then tried the whole sequence again - it worked!! :D
DeleteTHANKS SO MUCH! YOU SAVED US!!
Amil! Thank you so much! This was amazing. I have been trying to months to fix the phone and the directions are extremely clear!
ReplyDeleteGlad it helped you out! Once I figured it out (after a week of trying), I wanted to share it with others like you.

ReplyDeleteHi umyaa,
ReplyDeleteThere are several online providers you can rely on,I got my blackberry unlocked at unlock-zone.com/ .If you like you can also try it for unlocking your mobile. From my experience i would say this website seems to be most authentic than other phone unlocking website i have ever seen and they also provide very good service.
Hi, I do all the steps, but after the 14 step rather to have a unlocked phone, they show me the "SIM network unlock PIN" and I enter the code but the unlocked is still unsuccessful.
ReplyDeleteHmm... other users have mentioned this in the comments, and the only thing I can think of is that your unlock code is wrong. You can try calling AT&T directly to get the correct code.
DeleteAnyhow, it sounds like you can use your phone again with your carrier. Glad this guide could help you out!
I buy the code from two diferent places and they give me the same number, but the strange thinks it the step 15, as I told you rather to have a unlock phne they ask for the unlock code.
DeletePerhaps your SIM card is not active? Trying with a friend's SIM in your phone may help.
DeleteNo chance I tried with 2 different SIM cards, all of them active in different cell phones companies
DeleteNot sure what else to suggest :$
DeletePerhaps you missed a step? Anyhow, a solution might come to you if you wait a few
days.
DeleteI have atrix 886. It was unlocked and working on Tmobile network for about a week. It was originally at&t network & cell. How do I get it to work again. I have factory reset it plus another type of reset. When I put T-Mobile sim in it boots up to T-mo for a split second then says emergency calls only
ReplyDeleteI would suggest posting this question on a forum, such as xda-developers.
DeleteOk thanks. I will let u know the results
ReplyDeletedoes this work for an atrix Hd?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, but I bet it will, as it works for the Atrix 2.
DeletePlease post back with the results if you try with the Atrix HD, so that I can update the guide.
hi, would i have to be on the stock rom for this method to work?
ReplyDeleteA few users with custom roms reported issues (see the comments on this page) and I have not heard of anybody reporting success while using a custom rom. So, you will probably need to be on the stock rom.
DeleteHowever, if you can get it working on a custom rom, please reply back with the details.
Hey I do hav custom ROM, and I still not able to get unlock..
DeletePlease verify this if it is successful after stock rom.
Thanks for the info though..
Waitng for confirmation that it fails on cistom rom n success of stock rom..
I don't know if a stock rom will make it work, but I bet it would. If you can get it working, please post back and I'll update the guide to specify to use the stock rom.

ReplyDeleteHow to make Atrix HD
please help
I don't think this guide works for the Atrix HD based on the other users who have commented. I think the reason may be that the Retail Brazil Radio.sbf is not compatible with the Atrix HD. You could try searching online for SBFs for the Atrix HD and see if they can be used in place of Retail Brazil Radio.sbf.
DeleteIf you can get it working, please comment back with steps.
hey i am using a motorola mb860 which is permamently network blocked can u help me ? please
ReplyDeleteThis guide should work for your phone. If it doesn't, look through the comments on this page for a possible solution. If you can't find one, post back where you got stuck and I'll try to help you out.
Deletei got stuck in trying to find my correct sbf file .. i am using a motorola blur mb860 .. can u please send me the correct sbf
DeleteI don't have enough details to understand your situation. For this guide, you need to download the Retail Brazil Radio sbf in step 2 of the guide. Even if you are located in the US, it is okay to use this sbf. There is no other sbf available that I know will work.
DeleteIf you have the Atrix HD, this SBF probably won't work for you.
Thank you so much! I found this guide first but for some reason it was not working for me the RSD Process(rsd would not show my phone), I rooted and bootloader unlocked my phone and after unsuccessful attempts to flash radios using CWM, I came back here. Now RSD recognized my phone and after flashing that BRASIL SBF FILE, I could enter the code provided by AT&T and phone is working in ECUADOR MOVISTAR. Thank you so much Amil.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info and glad it worked out for you!
DeleteI have a Motorola blur 4g ATRIX mb860. After attempting to unlock the phone and entering a wrong code the phone is permanently locked ... I tried what u said but when I click start on the computer it says failed! .. idk y
ReplyDeleteSounds like an RSDLite issue or usb connection issue. The best way to resolve this would probably be a forum like xda-developers where you can get advice from more people.
DeleteI got stuck in the process my ATRIX doesn't show me NS flash when I connect the USB .. I followed ur instruction .. what should I do
ReplyDeleteumm is it possible u have another sbf file i can try ? can u please provide me with a next one ? cause the error message on the rsd is saying [0000] phone cannot re-enumerate
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I do not have another SBF file. Your best bet would be to post at the xda-developers forum. I hope you can get your phone working again.
Deletei tried posting there but i didnt get a respond .. can u get me a link ?
ReplyDeletei am using windows 7 is there other any other software besides rsd that can flash ?
ReplyDeleteSearching on Google, it looks like there is a program called Droid-X as well.
DeleteThere are quite a few other forums you can try. I see Android Central, Android Forums, and Droid forums from this Google search.
Anyways, I don't have the bandwidth to try to debug your issue through comments on this post.
well i tried using another sbf file but the rsd is saying failed and phone fails to re-emerulate or something like that
ReplyDeletehey thank you sooooo muccccch for your help !! it really helped me out . my motorola blur is unlocked and is working :) thank you !!!!!!!! but i realised that the atrix is over heating is there anyway to solve that ?
ReplyDeleteCool! What did you have to do to get it to work?
DeleteRegarding the overheating, I had the same issue. Some app was running constantly and draining my battery as well. To fix, go to Settings>Battery and data manager>Battery Usage and force stop that application.
For me, phone idle takes 63% and display takes 16% battery.
well i downoaded a higher version of rsd and the original sbf file and flashed the phone back to the original stock , then i rooted the phone and upgraded the operating system and then it prompt me to enter the code so i entered the code i ordered and it worked ! :) i cant thank you enough ! is there an email or facebook i can contact u by ?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting back, I updated step 9 based on what you said.
DeleteSorry, but I generally don't share my contact info with people I don't know in person.
Anyways, good luck with your revived phone! I still use my revived Atrix daily.
ok no problem , but im still trying to figure out why my atrix gets so hot and wat program can cool it down
ReplyDeletehey Jayson Charles
ReplyDeleteCould u send me the newest rsd n sbf version info.
n original stock os version...If possible links will be good too..
I too hav atrix which is locked more than year..n trying to make that peice work..
thanks...
Yey, I've been looking for a solution for this and now my phone is up and running! thank you so much for this!
ReplyDeletehi wouldn't flashing the custom made rom solve this carrier unlock problem?
ReplyDeleteI don't think this would work as the problem seems to be at the hardware level. If you can get it working by just flashing a custom rom, please post back how you did it!
DeleteHi, Amil!
ReplyDeleteI had stoped on step 11 :) and don't understand how fill out this fields: motoblur id, password.
?123, etc... must be in the "motoblur id" field?
"bluroff" must be in the "password" field?
Help me please.
No, just hold down the 4 squares button on the bottom left of your phone to bring up the keyboard and type anywhere.
DeleteThank you Amil! I've done it :)
DeleteMy scenario:
1. Menu/Settings/Privacy/Factory data reset (phone resets all data and reboots himself 2 times)
2. When booted up, he showed me start screen (!) for Motoblur (there was buttons like emergency call, start)
3. Here I had did actions from step 11 of your instruction
IT WORKED!!! IT FUCKING WORKED!!!
ReplyDeletefor motorola atrix hd try this, for me it worked perfectly, I blocked avia phone by putting network code incorrectly many times and accidentally change the phone rom and it worked and I returned to get the message to put the networking code.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HwgR4dalv0

@Luis Lainez were you able to unlock the phone??
DeleteAs i had also put the network unlock code incorrectly many times on Atix HD and it was subsidy locked but after reading your message i also installed the rom and was promoted to put the unlock code.
i had got the unlock code from At&t.But after putting in the correct code it still is says network unlocking unsuccessful.

Deletethis is my mail can send the photo there luisfercubas@hotmail.com

I'm still hoping that I get the code to shop online and I q I work because I had the phone for many months locked, when you put a single chip blocked message he left me for subsidy and contact service provider, now that I can now enter new code works perfectly I hope.
ReplyDeleteand sorry if I do not understand very well, what happens is that I only speak Spanish and use a translator to write.
You now do your atrix works perfectly with the help of my link?
ReplyDeleteNo its does not

Deletemmmmmm bad q q t not work, my code desloquo not to come, but I t let you know if it works for me, so we'll see if the code or is the rom the q funcioa not.
ReplyDeleteWill the above work for atrix hd,as mine is hard locked.or any other solution for it.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me , switched to Tmobile, too many attempts, followed directions (used RSD 5.3.1) BAMM !
ReplyDeleteThanks

ReplyDeleteI have LG optimus T9 P769 mobile.I was trying to solve the network unlock using lock codes by 2945#*769#. The 10 trial options are currently finished and the mobile responds that "This phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked". What shall I do? Please help me with your critical solutions.
ReplyDeleteHello can you help me with this? i did step 4 but i have 4 options (Reboot, Recovery, AP fastboot, BP tools) and the only one works is Ap fastboot, and when i want to flash with rsd said failed to flash
ReplyDeleteHi Aguch0,
DeleteAre you sure you held the volume up button and not the volume down button while booting up?
Are you using the Atrix 4G? If not, you may need to use a newer version of RSDLite.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteWRT to step 13. What if I do not have the AT&T sim? Can I skip that step? I bought phone without a sim and do not live in the US. My Atrix HD is locked to AT&T and shows "SIM network unlock PIN" at boot then after I enter the pin it says "network unlock request unsuccessful". I got the pin from unlockunit.com
Hi Hisan,
DeleteI think that you need to have an AT&T SIM card and connect to the AT&T network in order for your phone to be unlocked. The reason is probably because your phone needs to communicate with the network to get unlocked.
You could try inserting a local SIM card from where you live.
If it still doesn't work, I suggest contacting UnlockUnit and possibly getting a refund.
Best,
Amil
